Who am I?!

Anna Hart, Property Consultant

This blog post will be the only one to ramble on about me, I promise. The rest of my blog will be dedicated to providing insights about houses, homes and the general property world that you’ll hopefully find useful and interesting.

My name is Anna Hart. I’ve taken a completely new direction in my working life and it’s the best decision I ever made! I used to work for a very large global company, but in 2010 I decided against relocating with my company and instead I opted to take the opportunity of redundancy. At the time, I had no idea at all what I would do instead – I had a year or so to think about it before I was due to leave. I’ve never really known what I wanted to do, other than the usual childish dreams of being a ballerina, a horse-rider, or a singer… But I read a fantastic little book called “Screw Work, Let’s Play” by a brilliant man called John Williams, and over 6 months I worked out what I enjoy, what I’m good at, and what doesn’t feel like work.

Anna enjoys travellingSo what do I enjoy? My list included reading, taking photographs, travelling, fashion and style, writing, singing, cooking, and my home.

And what am I good at? I’ve been told that I’m great at analysing, solving problems, being logical, organising, communicating, empathising with others, planning, and getting things done. Some people tell me they can’t understand how I manage to do so many things at once…

Then I tried to answer the question of what I really wanted to achieve from my working life; what would give me ‘job’ satisfaction. After a while, I had a lightbulb moment: I realised that I just want to help people; to make a positive difference to other people’s lives. As corny as it sounds, that’s it!

So how could I help people with what I enjoy and using the things that I’m good at?

Property in the Napa Valley, California, USAIt all pointed to houses. I’ve described myself as a property kleptomaniac before, and I am guilty of excessive Rightmove surfing. When asked by a friend giving us a tour of Napa Valley in California whether I’d like to see anything else, I asked if we could just have a drive round the residential area of an old town so I could look at the houses…

I’ve had more experience in the property world than you might expect for someone of my age so I’ve got a good base to start from, and as houses are so interesting to me, learning more just comes naturally.

And finally: buying, selling or moving house are some of the most stressful activities of our lives, so there’s got to be a way I can help people with that, right?

Right! I slowly developed ideas for ways to take the hassle out of finding, selling or improving a house, using my natural skills and drawing on my own experience. I looked at how the property world works at the moment and tried to find ways that I could offer alternatives. I’m basically offering people the opportunity to have someone to plan, organise and manage all the details for them during the whole stressful process.

And it’s working, it really is. I’ve put a house on the market while the owners were on holiday. I’ve staged and sold a house that had been on the market a year before I was hired. I’ve saved clients money on every estate agency negotiation I’ve been involved in. I’ve got things done quicker than clients would have been able to without me (I love a deadline!). I’ve managed a large project to make significant improvements to a house and taken care of all the details for a client I didn’t meet until it was complete, because he lives in South America. I’ve found the ideal flat for a couple to move into so they could escape living with his parents. I’ve already made real, positive differences to people’s lives, and I’m chomping at the bit to help more people! I love the variety of what I do, and I love being able to actively make things easier for my clients. I also loved the box of chocolates I got sent as a thankyou after I’d sold a house within 2 weeks.

Today is going to be the best day everI’m currently specialising in preparing and presenting houses for sale, with the odd large management job every now and then, and the rest of my time is spent building up my profile face-to-face and online so that I can let as many people as possible know about the services I offer, and how much time and stress I can save them. I want everyone to know that when you do decide to embark on a property adventure, I’m here to help it go more smoothly. Pass it on!
